Choosing your ham

Quality, producers and quantities

What is the difference between ham and shoulder?

Ham comes from the hind leg, while shoulder comes from the foreleg. Ham generally provides more usable meat and longer slices. A shoulder is smaller, has a higher proportion of bone and suits smaller amounts of consumption. Compare format, weight and price as well as the brand.

Do Iberico, bellota and Pata Negra mean the same thing?

No. “Iberico” refers to the breed; the percentage states the proportion of Iberian breed. “Bellota” identifies a feeding and rearing category. The designation “Pata Negra” is reserved for bellota 100% Iberico. Read each product’s designation: a commercial name such as “Etiqueta Negra” does not by itself establish that category.

Which producer should I choose?

It depends on your budget, preferred format and taste. Visit Our producers to meet the eight producers in our selection and browse their products. Tell us how many people you are buying for and how you plan to serve it, and we can help you compare.

How much ham should I buy?

A small amount can be enough for a tasting. As a starter, allow roughly 40–60 g of ready-to-eat ham per person, adjusting for the rest of the meal. For occasional enjoyment, sliced packs let you open only the amount you need without starting a whole leg.

Does longer curing mean better quality?

Not necessarily. The right curing time also depends on the size and development of the piece. A smaller piece needs less time than a larger one. Extending curing does not automatically improve quality and can make it too hard. Consider the category, producer and readiness for eating as well.

Orders and payment

Buying, invoices and changes

How do I place an order?

Choose the product and its weight and preparation where offered. Add it to your basket, enter the delivery address and select an available shipping and payment method. Check the total before confirming. If the confirmation email does not arrive, check your spam folder and contact us before placing the order again.

Which payment methods can I use?

We offer card, PayPal and bank transfer. Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal instalment options may appear depending on your device, account and service availability. The methods available for your particular purchase are those shown at checkout.

How does payment by bank transfer work?

Select bank transfer and use the bank details in your confirmation. Include your order number as the payment reference. Preparation begins after we confirm receipt of the funds, so bank processing time is additional to shipping time. Follow the payment deadline shown in your order and contact us if you need help.

Can I get an invoice for my business?

Yes. Enter the company name and tax identification number in the billing details. If you have already ordered or need to correct them, send us your order number and complete billing and tax details. We will send the corresponding invoice.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible with your order number and the change you need. We will check whether the address, product or preparation can still be changed. The options differ once an order has been prepared or handed to the carrier, so please wait for our confirmation.

Delivery and tracking

Shipping times and receiving your parcel

Where do you deliver and how much does shipping cost?

We deliver to destinations in the European Union. Availability and cost are calculated using your country, postcode, order weight and chosen service. Check shipping costs and the final order total; some remote areas may carry a surcharge. Contact us before buying for a special destination.

When will my order leave and how long will delivery take?

Paid, available orders received before 1 pm Madrid time normally leave on the same working day. As a guide, standard shipping takes 2–4 working days to France, 3–5 to Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, and around 7 to Croatia. These estimates run from dispatch and are not guaranteed dates. Preparation, public holidays and remote destinations can add time.

Can I choose FedEx, DHL or express shipping?

Choose from the services shown for your address at checkout. We work with FedEx and, for certain destinations, DHL. Express availability also depends on the contents of your order. If you need it for a particular date, contact us before paying so we can check the right service.

How do I track my parcel or report a delay?

Use the tracking link in your dispatch email to check the carrier’s current status. If it shows a problem or delivery is delayed, send us your order and tracking numbers. We will review the situation and handle the issue with the carrier.

What if I am not at home? Will the driver call?

Give a complete address and a reachable local telephone number. The driver is not required to call before arriving. If you are absent, check the delivery notice and tracking: depending on the service, you may be able to arrange another delivery or collect from an authorised point. Contact the carrier or our team promptly to avoid the parcel being held up.

Can I send a gift or collect an order in Madrid?

You can give a delivery address different from your billing address, including a gift recipient’s address. Check their name, address and phone number. For collection in Madrid, contact us before travelling and wait until we confirm the order is ready. Usual collection hours are Monday to Friday, 11 am–2 pm. We are closed on Saturdays.

Formats and preparation

Whole, boneless or sliced

Which format should I choose?

A whole leg suits you if you enjoy carving and have a suitable holder and knife. Boneless pieces are easier to slice with an appropriate machine. Sliced packs are convenient for small portions, gifts and occasional enjoyment. Check the specific options offered on each product page.

Is the whole weight of a leg edible meat?

No. A whole leg’s weight includes bone, hoof, rind and outer fat. Yield varies with the piece and preparation: as a guide, boneless ham may yield around 38–45% of the starting weight and shoulder around 30–35%. Sliced-pack weights refer to the contents stated on the label.

How many pieces will my boneless ham come in?

We usually prepare boneless ham in four pieces and shoulder in two, vacuum-packed. The final weight is lower than the original leg because bones and unusable parts are removed. Check the preparation described on the product page and contact us before buying if you have a particular requirement.

Can I request special preparation?

Use the options shown on the product page. For a different preparation, contact us before confirming and paying so we can check whether it is possible and explain the conditions. A request in the order notes does not mean that a change has been confirmed.

Storage and serving

Keep, carve and enjoy

How should I store a whole ham or shoulder?

Keep it in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from sunlight and heat. Once started, protect the cut surface with food-safe material and clean the knife between uses. Avoid damp cloths. Follow the producer’s instructions for your particular piece.

How should I store vacuum-packed pieces and sliced packs?

Follow the storage temperature, date and instructions on the label. If refrigeration is required, put the product in the fridge when it arrives. Different formats need different storage: advice for a whole leg does not automatically apply to boneless or sliced products.

How should I serve sliced ham?

Take out only the amount you intend to eat and let it lose its chill before serving, following the label. Open the pack carefully and separate the slices when the fat has softened. Flavour and texture are better appreciated when the ham is not served straight from the fridge.

How long does it keep after opening? What if the vacuum is lost?

This depends on the format and storage, so follow the label and its instructions for use after opening. If a pack arrives swollen, open, leaking or without its vacuum, do not eat it. Keep the packaging, take photos and contact us so we can investigate.

Problems and returns

Let us help resolve it

What if my parcel is damaged or an item is missing?

Photograph the parcel, shipping label and contents, and keep the packaging. If damage is visible at delivery, ask for it to be recorded where possible. Contact us promptly with your order number and a description of the problem so we can investigate.

What if something seems wrong with my ham?

Stop eating it if you suspect a problem and contact us. Keep the piece, seal, labels and packaging; send photos and explain what you have noticed. We will assess it with you and, where appropriate, the producer. Do not send it back before receiving our instructions.

What are the return conditions?

Our returns policy provides a 15-day period from delivery in the cases described. For a started piece reported as defective, it asks you to retain at least 75% of the main piece’s original weight and its original seal. Contact us first so we can assess the case and arrange the procedure. Read the full policy for the conditions and applicable charges.

Who pays return shipping and how is a return resolved?

Under our policy, Spanishtaste covers transport for an accepted defect return and its replacement shipment. Other returns may involve charges for the customer. After assessment and receipt of the product where necessary, the applicable replacement or refund is processed. We will explain the procedure and any applicable costs before arranging it.
